Forward Deployed Engineer

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will be the technical bridge between the product and the teams building on it. You will help customers understand what Inferbase can do, design how it fits into their stack, and take them from a first proof of concept to a reliable production deployment. The role combines hands-on engineering with customer-facing work, and you will become the technical advisor customers trust through their adoption.
You will work closely with the founders and with the engineering and go-to-market efforts, guiding customers from technical discovery through deployment. What you learn on the front line flows back into the product, so the role shapes what gets built as much as it serves the customer in front of you.
What you will do
- Work with the go-to-market effort to understand customer requirements and translate them into technical solutions that align business goals with what the product can deliver.
- Act as the primary technical advisor to customers through discovery, evaluation, and production deployment, coordinating internally to help them succeed.
- Support customers building on the routing and inference API and the wider platform.
- Create and deliver technical content for different audiences, from deep dives with engineering teams to value-focused conversations with technical leaders.
- Guide architecture decisions and help customers integrate Inferbase into their existing systems.
- Help customers build evaluation frameworks that measure routing and model performance for their own use cases.
- Identify common integration patterns and bring those insights back to product and engineering.
- Build integrations, reference implementations, and documentation that help beyond a single customer, and travel to customer sites when it is useful.
You may be a good fit if you have
- Strong software engineering skills together with genuine customer-facing ability, for example as a solutions architect, sales engineer, forward-deployed engineer, or technical account manager.
- Experience working with technical customers and navigating adoption that involves several stakeholders.
- The ability to build relationships and explain technical concepts to a range of people, from engineers to technical leaders.
- Experience designing integrations and architectures against APIs and SDKs, and integrating with existing systems.
- Comfort with Python, and familiarity with common large language model frameworks or a background in machine learning.
- A genuine interest in teaching and helping others succeed, and comfort with cross-team collaboration and trade-offs.
- Experience building AI applications such as agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or chatbots, and familiarity with the OpenAI API ecosystem, is a plus.
